Number of Cassava Processing Machine | There are 4 manually operated local cassava processing machines with minimum production output. |
Current Capability of the Cassava Processing Machine: – # of manned labor, Hours of operation, Location of Carry processing machine | The cassava processing machines are functional but manually (not automated). Though they are easy to maintain, they do not have much features/components attached to them. They were purchased/or fabricated in the 1960s. Each machine has the capacity of producing up to 20 bags of cassava per day. A lot of times, the cassava is dried outside, and after drying they fry the cassava. HOURS OF OPERATION: Hours of operation is 12 hours and they do not have the luxury of electricity to work overnight. When it rains it disrupts activities, even they operation under shelter. PROCESS OF OPERATION: 1. Peeling and wash – a day because of the quantity (a wheel barrow – produces a 2 bags * 10 or 20) 2. Grind – a day 3. Drying – 4 days 4. Frying – Depending on the quantity, frying can take 4 days. If it is in the dry season, it can be fried in 2 days). 5. Starch is not collected, it is wasted because they do not have the market for it. They are put in 32 gallons of cassava.` |
Target Audience | women are mostly involved harvesting, peeling, and grinding. Men are mostly involved in the drying. |
