Chief Maxwell Ibe is an attorney at law and a graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Council of Legal Education. He has a Master of Arts (MA), and Post Graduate Diploma (PGDE) in Religious studies. In his earlier days, Chief won the medallion for the most disciplined student of Isu High School, Imo State, Nigeria, which plaque still hangs in the Public Library high school. He was a secretary of law students association at his university for which he attended international conferences representing the school.
He lectured at Kano State Polytechnic, prosecutor with Kano State Ministry of Justice, Senior Council, Junior partner in the Chambers of Ibe Ibe an Associates (firm of lawyers in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria), specializing in Mortgages recoveries, and probates. He was also a Junior in the Chambers of Senator C.N Nunieh & Co., specializing in oil spillages and communities compensations. Later, he became founder and Principal partner of Ibe and Associates, solicitors based in Port Harcourt, River State, specializing in Chieftaincy matters, inheritance, and all aspects of civil litigations, across Nigeria, especially, the Superior Courts of records.
Among his many publications are Globalization and Market Economy, as Relates to the Igbos, which received a wide readership. His conference papers include Judging the Judges, presented at the River State Nigerian Bar Association Seminar.
Some of the cases Chief Ibe defended, include high profile cases such as the Nigerian Army Borri Camp, Port Harcourt on Major General Ogbonna investigation on missing weapons in Bori Camp Port Harcourt, under the Chairmanship of Major General Ogbonna (rtd.). As a leading attorney to the Kor community of inquiry on Bori civil unrest, Chief Ibe, under the chairmanship of Justice Ugbari, served as a recovery lawyer for Cooperative & Commerce Bank (Defunct), African Continental Bank (Defunct), and Progress Bank Nigeria (Defunct).
Chief Ibe was made the Justice of the Peace (JP) by the River State government. He is currently a guest lecturer at River State Polytechnic Department of Law, legal advisor to Egi clan, in Ogba/Egbema Local Government (LGA) River State on Chieftaincy matters, as well as the Kor community, Bori River State.
Recognized for his expertise in customary law and sense of social responsibility, four communities (three in River State and One in Imo States) conferred with chieftaincy titles. Eminent Jurist and distinguished senators have passed through his tutelage. Chief Ibe is Founder of Igbo Union in Rivers State, former Vice Chairman disciplinary committee, Nigerian Bar Association, River State Chapter, and former Committee member, of the Rules and Regulations Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association. Chief Ibe is one of World Ebony Network (WEN) Government Relations Directors and a man of faith.
